On June 18, 2026, Major James Capers Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), was awarded the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony for his extraordinary heroism during the Vietnam War in 1967. Earlier this year, the Veterans Museum had the privilege of visiting Major Capers at his home in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to record his story for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
